Rejection & Relationship
1 John 3:1 (NKJV) 1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
When I was in Jr. High, my dad was the principal of our school. This made for some interesting parent teacher meetings and was especially hard when I would act out and get into trouble. (Which I did way too often)
One of the hardest parts was dealing with the rejection from other kids because of my dad’s role in their lives and discipline. I was an easy target in those days and had to learn quickly how to deal with the insults and taunting.
As children of God, we have the unique blessing of being called His children, of living a life in close relationship to Him. The world does not accept God’s offer of relationship so that has a tendency to cause us to be alienated from them.
This is difficult, and we often tend to want to “fit in” but what we have in relationship with God is so much greater than anything that the world would offer that we would be foolish to trade one relationship for another.
We must strive this week to remember the great honor it is to be called children of God and strive to prioritize our relationship with Him above all else.
