Creepers!

Creepers!

Jude 1:4 4"For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ."

It gives me the creeps just to think of it! Somehow, unbeknownst to anyone, a sneaker and creeper can get past all the barriers and locks. They can enter the home or sanctuary with evil intentions. Jude warns that the church is not immune to creeps.

Creeps have a M. O., A Modus Operandi. This routine behavior makes them obvious to anyone who is watching. First of all they “turn the grace of our God into lewdness.” Lewdness here could also be understood as licentiousness. The license to unrestrained sin. Where these creeps give themselves away is that they give license to sin that is expressly forbidden in God’s Word. Beyond that they use God’s grace as a cover for their license to sin. God’s grace is abused when used in this way. In fact, when applied in the excusing of sin, God’s grace is misunderstood and misapplied. (Romans 6:1)

Secondly, creeps deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ. Creeps deny the Lordship of God and Jesus over their lives. Their desire to lead lives of lewdness causes them to throw off any accountability to God and Christ. For these creeps it does not matter what God desires of their lives. They are going to live their own way, led by their momentary lusts.

Creeps are marked for condemnation. Long ago they were recognized and marked, they are set apart for condemnation. Though they exist in the home and in the church, creeps do not escape the watchful eye of our Lord. They will meet their chosen end. In the meantime we must be alert and aware of their existence and of their methods. We must call them out from the shadows and into the Light of His Word.
