Cornerstone Church,
1 Peter 4:11 (NKJV)
11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Last Sunday we broke down chapter 4 into 5 take away principles. Each of these principles come to a single motive seen in verse 11.
· The seriousness by which we pray – Ought to bring Glory to God
· The intentional intensity of love for One another – Ought to bring Glory to God
· The hospitality we display to others ought to be done to the glory of God
· The words we speak and how we speak them – Ought to bring Glory to God
· The way we serve one another at church – Ought to bring Glory to God
Let everything be done for the Glory of God…
1 Peter 4:7 - But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.
· Prayer is a powerful privilege. We ought to pray with severity like it is the end of the world; because it is.
1 Peter 4:8 - And above all things have fervent love for one another, for "love will cover a multitude of sins."
· In these last days… In difficult days it is proper and necessary that we intentionally increase the intensity of our love for our brothers and sisters in Christ. We should always love, even our enemies, but the love for one another becomes even more important now.
1 Peter 4:9 - Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.
· Perhaps it is the “without grumbling” that needs the most work. We should welcome people into our church and lives without reservation, regard to class, color or nationality. We should treat them with hospitality without complaining about the burden it will be.
1 Peter 4:10 - As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
· God has gifted each of us for the purpose of using our gifts in ministry to one another. It is not good for a Christian to sit idly as others serve them. We should be good stewards of the various giftings that God has provided to us.
