Weekly Bulletin - May 21st

Cornerstone Church,

Blessed by God

2 John 1:1-3 (NKJV) 1 The Elder, To the elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth, and not only I, but also all those who have known the truth, 2 because of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever: 3 Grace, mercy, and peace will be with you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

1. Grace
Grace is the extension of unmerited favor. In this case, God’s favor. We should love the church and our fellow members in such a way that we desire God’s complete unmerited favor upon them. I wonder how sincere out well wishes truly are. We fall so easily into habitual platitudes that we can take what is vital and make it shallow. What if, this week, the next time you tell someone to “have a great day”, you stop, pray, and make a sincere statement of that wish? I believe that would revolutionize the way we love one another. Paul adds to grace, the twin blessing of mercy.

2. Mercy
Mercy is simply not getting caught in the consequences of your sin or shortcoming. There are times when we do not have to receive the consequences even when we deserve it. Too often we enjoy seeing someone caught in their own web of lies or shortcomings. Mercy says, “No, I want to see God forgive you without punishment, I want you to be spared the hurt and embarrassment of your stumble.”
As the church, we truly wish God’s grace, mercy and peace on one another.

3. Peace
John desired the church to operate in Grace, Mercy and Peace. He had walked with Jesus, he had stumbled along the way and had received these very blessings from Christ. Let’s make it our goal to truly wish God’s grace, mercy and peace on those we come into contact with this week.
