Caught Between the Devil and the Deep Red Sea

Caught Between the Devil and the Deep Red Sea

Cornerstone Church,
GOD: Exodus 14:1-2 (NKJV) 1 Now the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 2 "Speak to the children of Israel, that they turn and camp before Pi Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, opposite Baal Zephon; you shall camp before it by the sea.

Have you ever been stuck? Spiritually? Israel was delivered from Egypt, from Slavery. Then brought into the wilderness, led by the Pillars of Fire and Cloud; Literally following God right into what can be called a trap. Why would God trap His people “Between Migdol (Tower) and the sea," opposite Baal Zephon (The god of winter cold) with Pharaoh hot on their tail? They could not be in a more precarious position. Why would God lead His people to a seeming impasse?

Well, the answer is simple, yet supernatural. God was going to do the miraculous. He was going to part the sea so that they could cross. A physical impossibility, is nothing for God.

Why does God allow us to also face difficulties? The same reason. He wants us to go through the valley of the shadow of death so that He can reveal Himself to us and through us.

Exodus 14:3-4 (NKJV) 3 For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, 'They are bewildered by the land; the wilderness has closed them in.' 4 Then I will harden Pharaoh's heart, so that he will pursue them; and I will gain honor over Pharaoh and over all his army, that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD." And they did so.

God was going to show the entire world that He was LORD! How did He do it? By getting His people up against a rock (tower) and a hard place (The Red Sea). The next time we are bewildered by the land, closed in by wilderness, let’s recall God’s purpose for problems.
