DAILY BREAD
Cornerstone Church,
Exodus 16:4-5 (NKJV) 4 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not. 5 And it shall be on the sixth day that they shall prepare what they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily."
Sufficient Rationing
Bread and carbs are the enemy in regards to most of the modern western diet. We just don’t need the calories and carbs as they did wandering in the wilderness. Each day they would gather a quota of manna, bread from heaven, to meet their needs. God did not provide Israel with abundance so that they could begin to trust in their store houses. God did not provide Israel fields of wild grain so they could begin to trust in the weather. God provided flakes of flour, falling as dew. To be gathered daily as a reminder of the miraculous provision of God.
Systematic Reliance
God was developing a relationship with a people who did not know Him for 400 years. A people who needed to learn to trust in God for daily bread. A people who needed to see God as their heavenly Father. A people who needed to rely on Him for protection from harm, for provision for life.
Sabbath Resting
If daily bread was a test, the Sabbath was the final exam. Each week they would be forced to trust God for that extra days’ worth of provision. To stretch their faith from daily bread to two day’s of bread. To know that God had a plan to provide for us every day in every way.
